Katarína Brestovanská: I N D I G O

The following performance reviews were generated within the project Dance Season 2018/2019 - a Slovak nationwide project of analyzes of contemporary dance performances and discussions, which was supported using public funding by Slovak Arts Council.

Visually and musically impressive performance. Live music creates a very strong emotion, the individual components complement each other, the piece is full of diverse details. Epic narrative. It analyses the theme of being different, transformation and role exchange, where work with folk motives is significant from the beginning, their transformation and mutation, simple props once reminiscent of a lamp, later a breast to which the dancer clings to as a child, then to be turned into a crown and a chalice at the end of a fairy tale as a symbol of femininity.

The play relates to themes and original symbols of Slavic folk culture, seeking intersections between contemporary and folk, subconscious and literary. They touch on the subject of otherness, the desire for another body, the necessary struggle for one's own space.
